"The country needs to have a serious conversation about how to prevent fires and a more effective attack right from the start," said António José Seguro, speaking to journalists at the entrance to the Paredes de Coura Festival, in the district of Viana do Castelo, where he introduced marathon runner Manuela Machado as his representative for the district of Viana do Castelo.
Seguro stressed that, "in times of combat, weapons are not cleaned," and it is necessary to "help families, civil protection, and mayors to face the current situation."
"There must be a pact between generations. This cannot be the new normal in our country. In October, November, when this scourge has passed, we must have a serious conversation in the country," he stressed.
When asked about the nationality law, Seguro began by emphasizing that a President of the Republic speaks out on decrees, stating that he is not "a wandering commentator who has to express an opinion at every moment."
"We will calmly wait for Parliament to consider the constitutional norms and draft a new document. I hope it will be a new piece of legislation involving all stakeholders, and that it respects our civilizational and constitutional values. I will make my decision at the end," he noted.
Regarding the "occurring cases" of problems with pregnant women accessing the National Health Service (SNS), the candidate said he hopes that, "in the future", "solutions will be found to avoid" the problems.
"Not knowing which door of the NHS is open and available to receive a woman who wants to give birth is unacceptable," he stressed, at a time when the Minister of Health asked the General Inspectorate of Health Activities to open an investigation into a birth that occurred in a public space.
